We celebrate our 8 years anniversary in a few months.
Each year we always make a point of doing something special to celebrate, usually going somewhere exotic and of course, romantic.
Our most memorable anniversary will always be our first year, when we visited Venice as this was our first trip abroad together. Of course Venice is a place you will instantly fall in love with, even if like us you visit out of season in February.
When it comes down romance generally, Italy is the ideal destination. We’ve travelled around the country before, but only Venice we’ve been to as a couple.

#1 STAY IN A LUXURY VILLA
We love luxury travel and always seek out the best boutique luxury hotels in every destination we visit. Staying in one of the many luxury villas in Italy is definitely a must for any couple.
We stayed in a few villas during our travels in Bali and from experience, having a private villa all to yourself is definitely worth the splurge. Doing this in a romantic destination like Italy is the great way to celebrate a special anniversary.

#2 BOAT RIDE ON THE AMALFI COAST
The Amalfi Coast is a 50km (31 miles) stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region, just south of Napoli.
It’s packed with many Instagrammable moments – just check out the coastal mountains plunging straight into the crystal clear water below.
The best way to take it the Amalfi Coast is on a boat ride, cruising around the islands taking and along the way enjoying the many small beaches, pastel-coloured fishing villages, terraced vineyards and cliffside lemon groves.

#3 VISIT LAKE COMO
Lake Como is a glacier lake in Lombardy, Northwest Italy. It has a maximum depth of 425 metres (1,395 feet), making it one of the deepest lakes in Europe.
That lake retreat scene from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones when Luke and Padme are wooing each other? That was filmed right here!
Lake Como has been a popular retreat for aristocrats and celebrities since Roman times. It has many villas and palaces and attracts the likes of Madonna, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Branson and George Clooney.
If it’s good enough for Madonna and Padme, then it sure is good enough for us!

#4 TAKE A COOKING CLASS
We love cooking classes. It’s the best way to get to the heart of a new culture and we always seek out the best cooking classes in every new place we visit.
The Italian cuisine is world famous and learning about the food is key to understanding more about the culture. There’s heaps of excellent cooking classes available in Italy and it makes the perfect activity to do together during a special anniversary.

#5 THAT GONDOLA RIDE IN VENICE
After visiting Venice for our first year anniversary we want to return for our next one and spend more time basking in the Italian sun, drifting through the canals aboard one of the iconic gondolas.
Yes its cheesy, completely cliché, but for good reason!
There’s nothing more romantic than drifting through the many quiet and picturesque canals in a gondola ride with your lover to hand and a bottle of wine in the other.
